Open Access | Original Article | 08 February 2025 | Article Number: 251006

Abstract

This research paper presents a study of the role of King Ram in national unity and security by analysing the geographical places mentioned in Ramayana. The study of the geography of the Ramayana period is not only helpful in understanding the geographical structure of ancient India, but it also sheds light on the socio-political system of that time. Different places mentioned in Ramayana, such as Ayodhya, Prayag, Chitrakoot, Dandakaranya, Kishkindha, etc. exist today and their geographical locations correspond to the descriptions in Ramayana. The exile journey of King Ram was not only important from the geographic point of view as it extended from North India into South India, but it also helped to forge unity amongst different states and communities. It is evident in the research that King Ram formed diplomatic relations with several states during his journey. Alliances with Nishadraja Guha, Vanaraja Sugriva, and Vibhishana not only added strength in fighting against Ravana but also became an emblem of national unity. These relationships made by Ram transcended caste, religion, and regional boundaries, indicating his inclusive policy. Ancient Indian geography is well illustrated, particularly by the rivers, mountains, and forests described in the Ramayana which depict natural boundaries and geographical diversities. Especially Dandakaranya, which extended across Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Maharashtra, gives an indication of the expanded forest area in ancient India. This work further elaborates on the strategic foresight of Ram in the context of national security. Successful campaigns against invaders such as Ravana not only reflect military prowess but also show his commitment to national security. This study seeks to present geography during the Ramayana era along with King Ram's vision for nation-building in contemporary times. This study provides significant perspectives on national unity and national security for our times. Read more

Parental Support as a Predictor of Optimism and Pessimism in Adolescents: A Statistical Study

Open Access | Original Article | 06 February 2025 | Article Number: 251005

Abstract

This study evaluates parental support's impact on predicting teenagers' optimism and pessimism levels. Altogether, 384 participants were analyzed using regression analysis and ANOVA in SPSS to determine the relationship between parental support and adolescents' emotional states. The findings have a high positive correlation between parental support and optimism, where β = 0.62, p < 0.001. Thus, it depicts that more significant support from the parent has a good correlation with rising optimism in adolescents. Inversely, low parental support is strongly associated with a rise in pessimism as recorded by β = -0.55, p < 0.001, therefore depicting the measure of parental engagement determining the emotional outlook of an adolescent. The regression results confirm that parental support significantly affects both optimism and pessimism, with R² = 0.48, thereby indicating very high explanatory power. The result suggests that the formation of a supportive environment for parents is a condition that fosters the psychological wellbeing of adolescents. The study recommends targeted interventions to strengthen parental engagement, promote emotional resilience, and reduce negative emotional tendencies among high school students. Read more

Impact of Parental Encouragement on Optimistic and Pessimistic Tendencies among Senior Secondary Students

Open Access | Original Article | 06 February 2025 | Article Number: 251004

Abstract

This study examines the effects of encouragement from parents on the optimistic and pessimistic inclinations of students in senior secondary schools. Using a survey with 384 participants, the association between parental encouragement and emotional inclinations was measured using correlation and regression analyses. There were also findings to suggest a significant positive correlation between encouragement from parents and optimism (r = 0.579, p < 0.01) and negative with pessimism (r = 0.646, p < 0.01). Regression analysis suggests that the effect of encouragement from parents explained about 41.8% variance in pessimism (R² = 0.418, p < 0.001) with a very significant association. Reliability tests further validate the strength of constructs while the values of Cronbach's Alpha range between 0.738 and 0.847. Descriptive statistics indicate that optimism scores have a positive magnitude M = 3.5370, more than that of the pessimism scores, M = 2.4813, which indicates an overall prevalence of positivity. Future studies can also focus on intervention schemes that engage parenting and other variables like peer influence and socio-economic status. This study highlights the value of programs aimed at guidance from parents in adolescents' psychological development, such as mainstreaming the role of parents in learning and development environments.
